Elementary Particles (HEP-PH)

sm-card1-small

We are engaged in the  study of the physics of Elementary Particles, namely,  physics of the Standard Model and beyond. This area of research is usually referred to as Phenomenology of High Energy Physics and has a long tradition in the University of Valencia which hosts the IFIC (Institut de Física Corpuscular) one of the most prestigious institutes in Europe in this area of research. The IFIC hosts very strong experimental groups in High Energy Physics which participate in the LHC experiments and also in several neutrino experiments. It also contains very strong theory groups working on the different aspects of High Energy Physics ranging from the phenomenological applications to the  mathematical foundations.

The research of group is strongly linked to experiment and heavily rooted in the Standard Model physics. Our interests in more speculative areas such as extra dimensions, Grand Unification Models or neutrino mass models, is always linked to the hope that those ideas/models will be probed experimentally in a close future.

Some subjects of our present research in the area of Elementary Particle Physics include:

  • Analysis of neutrino mass models with masses generated radiatively and their implications at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider), ILC (International Linear Colliders) and high precision experiments at low energy (Lepton Flavour Violation and Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay).
  • Electric and magnetic moments of the tau lepton and the top quark.
  • Fermion mass models with spontaneous symmetry breaking at an intermediate scale.
  • Production and detection of Kaluza-Klein modes at the LHC/ILC.
  • Formation, production and detection of the Higgsium at the LHC.
  • Determination of heavy quark masses and tests of the running masses in QCD.
